Kotak Securities F&O tax: export, turnover and what goes into your ITR-3

Kotak Securities gives you a realised P&L or Tax P&L statement, but the turnover figure it shows is not guaranteed to match the ICAI absolute-sum method your CA and the audit thresholds use. Here is what to export and how Aktai Tax turns it into the correct turnover for your return.

How to export your tax statement from Kotak Securities

1
Log in to Kotak Securities
Use the Kotak Neo app or trade.kotaksecurities.com, whichever you trade from. Both give access to your account statements.
2
Find the Reports or Statements section
Look for a Tax P&L, Realised P&L, or Capital Gains statement under Reports or Statements. The exact menu label has varied across Kotak platform updates, so if you cannot find it by that name, look for anything that lists realised profit and loss per trade or per scrip rather than open positions.
3
Select the financial year and all segments
Choose the FY you are filing for and include every segment you traded: F&O, equity intraday, equity delivery. A separate export per segment is common; download each one.
4
Download the file
Export as CSV or Excel, whichever the platform offers. This is the file Aktai Tax imports.
5
Upload to Aktai Tax
In the Aktai Tax app, go to Import and upload your Kotak Securities file. If the built-in parser does not recognise the format, the generic column-mapper takes over: map symbol, segment, side, quantity, price, trade date and charges once, and Aktai remembers it for next year.

Why the turnover figure needs a second look

Turnover for tax purposes is the absolute sum of realised profit and loss per trade or settlement, not contract value and not necessarily whatever total a broker report displays. The ICAI 8th-edition Guidance Note (August 2022) removed the older option sell-side premium add-back, so the current method is absolute P/L only. Aktai Tax applies this method to the realised P/L in your Kotak export rather than trusting a total the report may compute differently. See the full method in the turnover calculator.

What Aktai Tax does with your Kotak Securities file

ICAI-correct turnover
Absolute-sum F&O turnover and separate intraday equity turnover, computed the ICAI way regardless of what the report itself totals.
Deductible expenses
Brokerage, STT, exchange charges, SEBI charges and GST captured from the export where present, so your net taxable figure is right.
Audit check
Whether 44AB or 44AD applies, with transparent reasoning including the 44AB(e) loss-year trap.
Old vs new regime comparison
Side-by-side tax estimate so you can see which regime costs less before filing.

Also trade on other brokers?

If you trade on Zerodha, Dhan, Upstox, Groww or Angel One alongside Kotak Securities, upload all their Tax P&L files too. Aktai combines everything into one correct turnover figure. See the multi-broker turnover page and the full list of supported brokers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Kotak Securities show ICAI turnover directly?

Not reliably. Broker Tax P&L and realised-P&L reports across the industry are inconsistent about whether they show contract value, a broker-specific turnover figure, or the ICAI absolute-sum method your CA and the audit thresholds use. Treat whatever turnover figure Kotak displays as a starting point, not the final number, and let Aktai Tax recompute it from your realised per-trade P/L using the ICAI method.

Which file should I export from Kotak Securities?

The realised P&L or Tax P&L statement for the financial year, not the order book, contract notes, or a holdings snapshot. You need per-trade or per-scrip realised profit and loss, which is the input the ICAI turnover formula uses.

I trade on Kotak Securities and another broker. How do I combine them?

Upload each broker Tax P&L file separately in Aktai Tax. Aktai aggregates every broker into one combined ICAI turnover and a single tax-ready report rather than treating each broker in isolation. See the multi-broker page for the full picture.

What if Aktai does not recognise my Kotak export format?

Kotak Securities does not yet have a dedicated built-in parser the way Zerodha, Dhan, Upstox, Groww and Angel One do. If your file is not auto-parsed, the generic column-mapper on the supported-brokers page takes over: map your columns once and Aktai remembers the mapping for future imports.
